Aaron Leaney Three - Self-Titled (SOCAN)

I sit here with two CDs in front of myself with the Canadian saxophonist and clarinet-ist Aaron Leaney.
The first is a self-published duo admission from Calgary taken in on July 19th and the 1. August 2006. Aaron Leaney is playing tenor saxophone and clarinet and with him is Chris Dadge on drums and percussion which masterly supports him.
The teamwork and the interaction between these two musicians takes the thoughts back to February 1967, where John Coltrane and Rashied Ali had an exceptional cooperation, on the one and the same instruments, which produced "Interstellar space".
Leaney and Dadge play out a certain thing of the trousers and one cannot be other than pulled along and surrender unconditionally - this holds 100 %.
This small pearl of a CD is only published in 150 copies and can for instance be bought through Aaron Leaney's homepage www.aaronleaney.com - If you intend to get this CD you ought probably not wait for too long a time, it's as already mentioned only published in 150 copies and my version will be number 136 in the row.
The other CD is a publication that straight has been sent on the street here in the start of 2008 with Aaron Leaney's trio outfit - Aaron Leaney Three. The trio consists of Aaron Leaney himself on tenor-, everything saxophone and clarinet, Thom Golub on acoustic bass and Chris Dadge on drums, pelvises and electronics. Here is a trio who is able to play freely and experimentingly without losing the thread, still prosperous focus on the teamwork, the 3 among with good catchy tunes is harmonious.
The inspiration is clear from the great masters within the genre - Ornette Coleman and John Coltrane who all the time put and eavesdrop in the wing. The trio leads himself five with a no bullshit attitude that tumbles in that direction without looking back. They play hugely together and the sound they produce, is mind-sick tight and well played. Even though a lot that it that comes out of the loud speaker, over at Vejen it's improvised sections never seem messy or random, but rather closely inventive and planned down to the last detail and in that degree complete.
The energy, the joy of playing and not least the nerve that is brought on these two publications to the light, is the reason why I must give them my honest and most heartfelt recommendations while on the road.

Jeg sidder her med to cd'er foran mig med den canadiske saxofonist og klarinetist Aaron Leaney. Den første er en selvudgivet duo optagelse fra Calgary optaget den 19. Juli og den 1. August 2006. Aaron Leaney spiller selv på tenor saxofon og klarinet og med sig har han Chris Dadge på trommer og percussions der mesterligt bakker ham op. Her er en trio der formår at spille frit og eksperimenterende uden at miste tråden, til stadighed holdene fokus på sammenspillet de 3 imellem og de gode iørefaldende melodier og harmonier. Inspirationen er tydelig fra de store mestre indenfor genren - Ornette Coleman og John Coltrane som hele tiden lægger og lurer i kulissen. Trioen fører sig fem med en no bullshit attitude som tonser derudaf uden at se sig tilbage. De er enormt sammenspillede og lyden de fremstiller er sindsyg tight og velspillet. Selvom meget at det der kommer ud af højtaleren, er improviseret hen af vejen kommer det aldrig til at virke rodet eller tilfældigt, men derimod nøje udtænkt og planlagt ned til mindste detalje og i den grad gennemført. Energien, spilleglæden og ikke mindst nerven der lægges for dagen på disse to udgivelser, gør at jeg må give dem mine varmeste og mest inderlige anbefalinger med på vejen.
