AARON LEANEY & CHRIS DADGE DUO
BIO AND BRIEF HISTORY
The seeds of this duo were planted in 2002, when Leaney and Dadge met at college in Calgary, Alberta. During their time there, they played in a quartet which performed and rehearsed throughout 2002-2003, until Leaney moved to Toronto in fall of 2003. Their activities were curtailed for this period, except for short periods of time during holidays and summers. It was during this time that the two began working out ideas for playing music with tenor saxophone and drumset. This continued for the extent of Leaney’s time in Toronto.
Throughout 2003-2006, Leaney worked towards his eventual completion of the music degree program at Humber College; he studied with Pat LaBabera and Don Thompson. Dadge finished studies in Calgary and worked in a variety of different settings, performing and recording with the Bent Spoon Trio, Jay Crocker, and Lorrie Matheson.
In 2005, Leaney & Dadge had a successful live radio performance and subsequent inclusion on Alive From CJSW (CJSWAOK, 2005). This performance included three of Leaney’s “Compositions for Saxophone & Drums” pieces, of which No. 2 is featured on the CD.
As Leaney finished his degree in Toronto, Dadge’s activities with Bug Incision Records/Concerts increased substantially, resulting in plans for a duo release. Since Leaney’s recent stay in Calgary, the duo has been performing and rehearsing regularly. Two such performances (July 19 and August 1, 2006) resulted in the music for Duo, which is currently being prepared for release this fall on Bug Incision.
Duo is available through www.squidco.com or from the band.
